George A. Gordon was a Colonel in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. In 1861 he became Captain of the First Regiment Georgia Infantry, which later became the 13th Battalion Georgia Volunteer Infantry, also known as the Phoenix Battalion and Gordon’s Battalion. He was elected Major of the battalion in April 1862.
